Hillsboro Health
On Thursday, January 29, 2026, with a packed house and a foot of snow on the ground, Hillsboro Health hosted an inventive groundbreaking ceremony for its outpatient surgery replacement wing, patient drop-off canopy, front lobby renovations and central utility plant construction project. More than 70 people filled the Hillsboro Health Cloud room, including Illinois State Senator Steve McLure, State Representative Wayne Rosenthal and representatives from United States Congresswoman Mary Miller’s office.
Hillsboro Health President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Alexander unveiled plans and renderings of the upcoming expansion and modernization project, including updates about the front lobby renovation. "Over the next couple of years, we will have invested nearly $40 million into this campus," said Alexander. "We are happy to be here to serve this community. And you all will be proud to bring your families here for excellent health care close to home," he added.
With Alexander and Hillsboro Health Board members Earl Flack, Justin Holderread, Jordan Ruppert and Mary Herschelman donning hard hats and holding cereomonial gold shovels, the screens flipped to a live feed of an excavator prepared to take the first dig. On Alexander’s prompt, members of the O'Shea Builders construction team cued the operator to take the first scoop of dirt and applause filled the room. Guests then enjoyed light, construction themed refreshments and dessert.
The construction projected will be completed by spring 2027. For construction updates and wayfinding directions, please visit our website or Hillsboro Health Facebook page.
